DAR meeting

The Rhea-Craig Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Sweetwater Public Library, located at 210 Mayes Avenue. The program will be on “The Proposed Amendments that Failed” by Barbara McKeel. Hostess will be Mary Adams. Members should bring books for the library boxes. Community Dinners

Due to a decrease in participation from area churches and organizations who help with the dinners, the Food Pantry of Tellico Plains has announced that its weekly community dinners will now only be held twice a month. This month’s community dinners will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Alumni Center at Tellico Plains High School. These are free meals to the public.

Free spay/neuter vouchers

SNAP will issue free spay/neuter vouchers to low-income Monroe County residents on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Cora Veal Senior Center, located at 144 College Street in Madisonville. Free spay/neuter vouchers can be used for dogs and cats by any Monroe County resident. Pet owners can receive multiple vouchers to “fix” all their pets.

TPHS Class of 1974 reunion

The Tellico Plains High School (TPHS) Class of 1974 will hold its 45th class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the TPHS Alumni Building. The cost to attend is $15 per person. Please send money and information to Sherri Raby at P.O. Box 88, Tellico Plains, TN 37385.

Moser family reunion

The Moser Family reunion will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Lighthouse Fellowship Hall on Highway 411 South in Madisonville. There will be singing. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call 519-9222.

The Standing Up to MS Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Thai Bistro Restaurant at Tellico Village, located at 222 Lakeside Plaza in Loudon, for a presentation on “Dysphagia: Can We Get Help?” by Heather Ford, MS, CCC-SLP, with Total Rehab Tellico West. Center’s Haunted House

Center Presbyterian Church in Tellico Plains will hold its annual Haunted House on Oct. 18-19 and 25-26 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night. The cost is $3 per person.

Spaghetti Dinner

Monroe County Republican Women will host a spaghetti dinner on Monday, Oct. 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Republican Headquarters, located at 132 College Street in Madisonville. Donations will be accepted for the Connie White Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Toastmasters meeting

Monroe County Toastmasters, an organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills, will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at noon at the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce office in Madisonville. The Cora Veal Senior Center will hold its annual Community Resource Expo on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Monroe County Senior Citizens & Friends. The event will feature a variety of community business and health information, as well as vendors, giveaways and door prizes. The families of George and Dora Lynn are having a reunion on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tellico Plains Community Center. Please bring your own food and drinks, along with any old family photos.

MHS Class of 1959 reunion

The Madisonville High School (MHS) Class of 1959 will have its 60th class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 26 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau building in Madisonville. At 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, the class will plant a red dogwood tree at Madisonville Middle School in honor of beloved classmates. A very special invitation is offered to the families of deceased classmates to be present at the tree setting. Make checks for the reunion meal to MHS Class of 1959 and mail to Willie Jean Rinehart at 140 Graves Vance Road, Madisonville, TN 37354.

Veterans Day program at Sequoyah

Sequoyah High School will observe Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11 with a program at 2 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. All veterans are invited to attend the ceremony.
