A man reportedly walking in traffic on Main Street in Sweetwater on Tuesday evening had to be Tased after he ran away from police.
Sweetwater Officer Rob Burris said he was told around 4 p.m. that a man was walking in the middle of traffic on Main Street in front of T.J.’s Food Mart and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
When he arrived, Burris said he found the man, later identified as Jeremiah Kriner, inside the store. Burris said he talked to Kriner and described him as twitching and being unable to stand still.
Burris asked Kriner to come outside with him and then patted him down to make sure he did not have any weapons on him and then told him he was being arrested for public intoxication.
Burris said Kriner responded to this by taking off running toward Mayes Avenue. Burris took off after him and soon found him in a creek area behind the 900 block of Mayes Avenue, according to arrest warrants.
Kriner was helped out of the creek but would not comply with officers’ orders to put his hands behind his back, police said. Burris said he eventually used his stun drive on Kriner’s back, at which point officers were able to get the handcuffs on him.
Kriner, 33, North Point Road, Sweetwater, was charged with public intoxication, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
