It is graduation time in Monroe County and 13 years of hard work will soon pay off for hundreds of graduates.

The three county high schools — Tellico Plains High School, Sequoyah High School and Sweetwater High School — will honor the Class of 2019 with multiple events leading up to commencement ceremonies.

The following is a list of planned senior events and graduation ceremonies:

Sequoyah High School

Sequoyah High School’s seniors will participate in the annual Senior Drive on Friday, May 10, beginning at 8 a.m. Seniors will meet at the baseball field parking lot.

The graduating class will hold its Baccalaureate Service at First Baptist in Madisonville on Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. Seniors are asked to be at the church by 6:30 p.m. and will need to wear appropriate church attire and bring their cap and gown to wear during the service.

On Thursday morning, May 16, at 9 a.m., seniors will participate in Class Night practice and indoor graduation practice in case of inclement weather.

Scholarship Night and Class Night will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. Seniors are asked to arrive by 6:15 p.m.

On Friday, May 17, the seniors will practice for graduation at 9:30 a.m. on the football field.

Graduation ceremonies for the Sequoyah High School Class of 2019 will be held on Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. on the football field. The rain plan is to hold the graduation ceremony inside the school’s gymnasium.

Sweetwater High School

Sweetwater High School will hold a Senior Awards Night on Monday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church (in the Sanctuary).

A Baccalaureate Service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church (in the Sanctuary). First Baptist Church will also host the senior class for a breakfast on Thursday, May 16, at 8 a.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

Following the senior breakfast on May 16, the graduating class will do a senior walk-through in the Sweetwater City Schools. This is estimated to begin around 9:30 a.m. Immediately after the senior walk through, graduation practice will be held in the Sweetwater High School gymnasium.

On Thursday night, May 16, the SHS Class of 2019 will receive their diplomas during a commencement/graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. in McMinn County High School’s gymnasium.

Tellico Plains High School

Tellico Plains High School will honor its graduates with a Senior Awards Day on Friday, May 3, at 9:30 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium.

The TPHS Class of 2019 will hold its Baccalaureate Service at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

Yearbooks will be distributed on May 6 and the annual “A”lympics academic competitions will begin, with athletic competitions being held the following day (May 7).Class Night for the Tellico Plains High School graduating class will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. The soon-to-be graduates will enjoy a senior breakfast on Friday, May 17, at 8:15 a.m. with graduation practicing following. On Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium, the TPHS Class of 2019 will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas during a commencement ceremony. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m.

The Advocate & Democrat will honor the Class of 2019 with a special section, which will be inside the Wednesday, May 8 edition.
