A Sweetwater man was arrested after Facebook alerted a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detective that the man was having inappropriate conversations with a 14-year-old girl.

Detective Daniel Schneider said on April 30 he received a cyber tip from Facebook saying a conversation between two profiles, one claiming to be a 25-year-old man and the other listed as a 16-year-old girl, contained references to sexual activities between the two.

Through investigation, Schneider was able to find the girl and asked her mother if he could talk to her. The mother agreed, and Schneider found out the girl was actually 14 years old and that the man was Jay Fox, who she said was 24, though his listed date of birth shows him to be 21.

The girl told Schneider that Fox had came to her house twice and they had been using the Facebook Messenger app to communicate.

Fox, Heuer Street, Sweetwater, was charged with statutory rape and solicitation of a minor.
