USDA Food Commodities will be distributed at the Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority’s Monroe County Neighborhood Service Center, located at 884 Englewood Road in Madisonville, on Thursday, Feb. 27, beginning at 9 a.m. The distribution will continue until all food is distributed or until 2:30 p.m. There will also be a distribution at the Tellico Plains Community Center, located at 132 Bank St. in Tellico Plains, on Friday, Feb. 28, starting at 10:30 a.m. and lasting until all food is distributed or until 1 p.m.
Note: Households can only receive assistance from one location. This will be monitored.
The distribution is offered through Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc., and is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. Eligibility is determined at the time of service and is only available to Monroe County residents. Recipients should bring their driver’s license or state-issued ID card, along with one (required) or more of the following:
- Food Stamp card;
- Proof of AFDC;
- Proof of 2019 SSI (awards letter);
- Proof of residence in public housing;
- Proof of current LIHEAP assistance/approval;
- Current paycheck.
If an individual does not fit into a category above, then proof of household income should be provided. Recipients must be low income and fall under the 150% of the poverty income guidelines. Recipients must bring their documentation with them each time USDA commodities are distributed.
If an individual has a need for someone else to pick up the commodities for him or her, a permission slip must be used. This slip must be picked up in advance at the Monroe County Neighborhood Service Center.
No one shall be excluded from participation in or denied benefits based on the grounds of handicap and/or disability, age, race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
