Warm weather is here and that means state and local road project time.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) says it will not have a major project schedule this summer like it did last summer when it paved Sweetwater-Vonore Road and completed several other major paving projects.
Monroe County Road Superintendent Steve Teague said county road projects by the Monroe County Highway Department include maintenance and paving part of Old Highway 68 between Madisonville and Sweetwater. Teague said portions of Pond Ridge and McJunkin Road will be paved as well.
According to Teague, the bid should be advertised in mid summer for a project using state bridge funds to replace the bridge over Mulberry Creek in the Mt. Pleasant Community.
The county has more projects it will tackle as well.
“We will chip and seal about 30 miles of various roads in the county,” Teague said.
In recent years, TDOT has paved Interstate 75 through McMinn County and Monroe County.
The portion of I-75 through Loudon County has numerous potholes but TDOT does not plan a total repaving of that stretch of interstate. However, TDOT always has a full slate of maintenance projects to repair bad places on roads.
