The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said a 27-year-old Sweetwater man died in a car crash on Sunday just before noon.

The THP said Joshua A. Sturgill was killed when the SUV he was driving ran off the road near the intersection of Loudon Road and Vonore Road. The crash investigator said Sturgill was not wearing a seat belt and his driving speed exceeded the posted speed limit.

According to the accident report, Sturgill’s SUV went airborne after he over corrected and hit an embankment. The SUV landed on its side.

The report said wearing a seat belt could have made a difference in the outcome of the accident.
