Sept. 11 observance

Monroe County Mayor Mitch Ingram and Veterans Officer Andy Boyd will host a Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony on the Courthouse lawn in Madisonville. This event will take place on Sept. 11. Everyone is invited. Please gather at 8:40 a.m. so that a moment of silence can correspond with the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center (8:46 a.m.). This will be a brief ceremony.

DAR meeting

The Rhea-Craig Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Sweetwater Public Library at 210 Mayes Ave. The program will be “Revolutionary War Old Customs” by Mrs. Bright. The hostess will be Jo Watson. Any woman interested in DAR can call Mrs. Long at 423-337-4004.

Taylor family reunion

The Taylor family will have a reunion from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Kefauver Park in Madisonville. Please bring a covered dish to share and a chair, and come enjoy the day with family.

A flagpole dedication

A flagpole dedication and U.S./Tenn flags raising will take place at the corner of Route 360 and Ballplay School Road at 10:45 a.m. It will be  hosted by the Ballplay Ruritan Club and will be attended by State Sen. Mike Bell, and other dignitaries. Sen. Bell donated the Tennesssee flag, and Woodmen Life donated the new flagpole.

Miller family reunion

The Miller family will have a reunion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Engleman Park in Sweetwater. Please bring a covered dish to share.

Sept. 21

True Purpose Ministries Festival

Russell Cellular in Sweetwater will hold a True Purpose Ministries Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21, from noon until 6 p.m. There will be bounce houses, a car wash, music and food. Raffle items have been donated by Jacky Jones Ford and others. All festivities will be by donation only. Proceeds from the event will be given to True Purpose Ministries — a faith-based, long-term addiction recovery program that provides evidence-based treatment and housing to men and women. Russell Cellular is located at 914 A TN-68 in Sweetwater.

MHS class reunion

The Madisonville High School Class of 1984 will hold its 35th reunion at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at The Willows Event Center, in Madisonville. Barbecue will be provided.
