NARFE meeting

The NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees) organization will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Western Sizzlin’ restaurant in Athens at 11:15 a.m. Karen Wilson from Blue Cross/Blue Shield will give information on the Govt. Open Season. Following her presentation, the organization will have its annual Christmas party. Please bring a canned good and toy for distribution to the needy. There will be a gift exchange for those interested. All are welcome. Please arrive around 11 a.m. if you want to order a meal.

Madisonville Public Library holds a free preschool story hour every Thursday at 11 a.m. Children will also be able to make a craft.

Every first and third Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m., Sweetwater Public Library holds Pokémon League for fans of the trading card game Pokémon Go, or those just interested in the Pokémon craze.

Underage Drinking Town Hall Forum

The Monroe County Prevention and Wellness Coalition will host an Underage Drinking Town Hall Forum on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Chota Community Health Services on Highway 68 in Madisonville. The forum will center around discussions on the dangers of underage alcohol use, the barriers Monroe County faces, and what is being done to change those barriers. Guest speakers will be State Rep. Lowell Russell and Tennessee SADD State Coordinator Julie Strike. All youth who attend will receive volunteer hours.

Madisonville Public Library will hold a mini craft fair at the library on Friday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Tellico Plains Public Library will host a Christmas Family Night at the library on Friday, Dec. 6, from 7-8 p.m. There will be a timeless holiday tale, visits with Santa, games, crafts and snacks for all to enjoy.
