One man was arrested and another is being sought for a burglary that allegedly saw them take or damage nearly $10,000 in items Feb. 18.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Det. Samantha Filley said deputies were dispatched to a home on Barney Creek Road around 3 p.m. where there residents told them someone had broken into their home through their daughter’s window.
The couple estimated the value of the items taken and the damage done was $9,600.
Later that day, just before 2 p.m., Madisonville Police spotted a car that had been reported stolen on Toomey Lane and a search of the car turned up items that had been taken from the home.
Madisonville Officer Thomas Spradlin arrested the driver, Joshua Dakota Keith Burnett, and Filley then interviewed him.
Spradlin was told Burnett and a man named Charles Burnett had gone to the home and broken into it.
Josh Burnett said Charles Burnett had dated the family’s daughter and they went to the home twice, once before sunrise and once as the sun was coming up. Josh Burnett allegedly said Charles Burnett wold bring stuff out to him and he would put them in the car.
He also said they took stuff from a barn.
Josh Burnett also reportedly admitted he did go into the kitchen area of the house.
Josh Burnett was also tied to a burglary at a home on Bell Town Road after he was reported to have tried to pawn a gun in Vonore that had been reported stolen from the home on Jan. 14.
Josh Burnett, 19, Ball Play School Road, Tellico Plains, was charged with aggravated burglary and two counts of theft over $1,000. He was also charged with theft over $10,000 in connection with the stolen car.
Authorities are still looking for Charles Burnett.
