A bomb squad was called into action on Wednesday morning after a strange-looking device was found on Isbill Road in Madisonville.

Madisonville Police Officer Craig Summey said he was sent to Isbill Road just a little after 11 a.m. along with Fire Chief John Tallent. They talked to a man who was pointing at a device on the side of the road.

Summey said when he and Tallent got closer, they saw a white PVC pipe with a J-B Weld on one end and a bolt on the other end with a metal coupling in the middle.

Taking precaution, Tallent called in bomb experts from Knoxville and when they arrived, they found it was indeed an actual pipe bomb and safely detonated it on the scene. No one was injured.

Summey said evidence was collected and turned over to Detective Daniel Dockery for investigation.
