A husband and wife were arrested Wednesday in Sweetwater after the husband allegedly tried to wear a jacket out of a store without paying for it.
Sweetwater Police Officer Robert Burris said he went to Rural King, where workers told him the pair had ripped a tag off a Carhartt jacket and one of them was wearing it.
Burris found the couple in the checkout line and identified them as Gordon and Christine Fritts, both of Big Creek Road outside of Madisonville.
Burris told them what was going on and Gordon Fritts allegedly said he had a pill bottle in his pocket that contained Adderall, which he said was prescribed to his wife. Burris said he reached into the pocket and pulled out a green, unmarked bottle that contained six and a half pills identified as Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine.
Burris said he then searched Christine Fritts’ pocket book to check if there was any unpaid for merchandise in it and found a red case that contained residue and a straw.
Gordon Fritts, 47, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule II narcotic while Christine Fritts, 49, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. It will be up to the store to pursue any shoplifting charges.
