The American Cancer Society’s fourth annual Monster Dash 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk and costume contest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Kahite Club House, located at 400 Kahite Trail in Vonore.
The event is being organized by JTEKT and will be held rain or shine.
“Each year, the Monster Dash has grown with more participants and sponsors,” said Abbie Warren, the chairwoman for Relay For Life of Monroe County. Registration will be from 8-9 a.m. on the day of the race, followed by costume judging at 9 a.m. The run/walk will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. This is a certified chip timed race for 5K runners.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers. First, second and third-place medals will also be awarded in a variety of age categories for male and female runners.
Costumes are encouraged, but optional, for this event.
The costume contest is free to all paid race participants. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.
“Participants dress up in a variety of costumes, from whimsical to scary,” said Warren. The cost of a day-of-race entry is $30. You can register online at active.com by searching for Monster Dash.
“I encourage everyone to register early to qualify for one of the unique Monster Dash designed T-shirts,” said Warren. The light weight T-shirt, along with a goodie bag, is guaranteed for pre-registered participants.
Extra shirts will be available on a first come, first serve basis for those who register after Oct. 19.
