A couple in an allegedly stolen car were arrested early Monday morning.
Sweetwater Officer Kelvin Franco said he was on patrol around 1:30 a.m. when he ran the tag of a car at the intersection of Highway 68 and Main Street. The check came back as showing the car had been reported stolen out of Bradley County.
Franco said he attempted to stop the car on High Street, but the driver sped up, ran a stop sign onto Monroe Street, then ran the red light in Main Street and continued on to Old Highway 68.
Franco chased the car onto Christianburg Road, then the Christianburg connector and onto New Highway 68, then onto Eastanaula Road before the chase entered McMinn County. The car finally came to a stop on McMinn County Road 436 and two people jumped out of the car and ran, according to the officer.
Franco said the driver, later identified as Kassity Shadick, was quickly apprehended, but the passenger, identified as Eric Camp, was chased into the woods, refused to stop running and eventually was Tased and brought to the ground.
Franco read both of them their rights, but Camp refused to talk. Shadick did talk, Franco said, and told him she was driving and had taken off due to not knowing what to do.
Shadrick, 22, Farrell Street, Niota, was charged with possession of stolen property, felony evading arrest, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and five traffic violations.
Camp, 29, County Road 456, Athens, was charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property.
