Two men were arrested after allegedly vandalizing two cars in Sweetwater on May 6.

Sweetwater Police Officer Chris Corona said just before 4:30 a.m. on May 6 he went to Morris Street where he talked to Jonathan Stein, who said he went outside to smoke and saw Gage Hayworth and Justin Inman inside his father’s vehicle.

Stein told Corona he yelled at the two men and they took off running. Corona said he looked inside the car, a Ford Edge, and saw the ignition was pulled out and the overhead lights ripped out.

A driver seat panel was also pulled out and Stein told Corona had $250 in the car, which was also missing.

The other car, a Ford Escape, appeared to have a broken house key in the ignition and the overhead dome light pulled out. Corona said the computer from under the passenger side dashboard was also gone.

Corona said he didn’t see any signs of forced entry into the cars.

It took a couple of weeks, but Corona said Inman, 34, Hawkins Road, Sweetwater, and Hayworth, 28, Harnell Road, Knoxville, were located and arrested.

Hayworth is charged with two counts of burglary of a vehicle and theft under $1,000, while Inman was charged with two counts of vandalism over $1,000.
