A man allegedly loaded down with beer and alleged narcotics was arrested outside of a Sweetwater bank on May 8.

Officer James Willett said he received a call of man slumped over on a bench outside of BB&T Bank on New Highway 68 and did indeed find the man when he arrived on the scene.

Willett said it took several attempts to wake up the man, identified as James Stinnett.

The officer said Stinnett smelled strongly of alcohol, was very unstable on his feet, had red, glossy eyes and slurred speech.

According to Willett, a search of Stinnett turned up two Bud Light cans in his front pockets and a clear, plastic baggie with two round, blue pills that were identified as Diazepam, though Stinnett said they were Valium and he did not have a prescription for them.

Stinnett, 51, Old Mine Road, Sweetwater, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule IV narcotic and public intoxication.
