The Frerichs Sawmill in Coker Creek caught fire early in the morning on Jan. 11, leading to significant damage to the business.

The fire started around 4 a.m. that Saturday, causing damages estimated to be around $200,000 to $300,000.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, according to Tellico Plains Fire Chief Jamie Sisson.

“I think we lost most of the sawmill,” said Sisson.

Those who responded to the scene were Tellico Plains Fire Department, Coker Creek Fire Department, Ball Play Fire Department and Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
