A Sweetwater man was killed Friday evening when his motorcycle was struck from behind while turning off of Vonore Road into a driveway.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said James Rose, 18, was killed in the crash.

According to the THP preliminary report, Rose was traveling east on the highway attempting to turn into a driveway after 9 p.m. and was waiting for two other vehicles coming from the other direction to pass so he could make the turn.

The THP said Rose’s motorcycle was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Leonard Strickland, 72, of Sweetwater. According to the accident investigation, Rose’s motorcycle was then knocked into one of the oncoming vehicles while Strickland sideswiped the other vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing and THP said charges could be coming against Strickland but no final determination had been made as of Monday.
