Firefighter injured in crash

Two members of North Monroe Volunteer Fire Department were involved in an accident on Old Highway 68 in Sweetwater late Thursday afternoon while leaving a call, the Fire Department said. According to a press release by the Fire Department, Capt. Justin Wilson’s personal vehicle lost control of its brakes sending him into the rear end of the Fire Department car 677 driven by Chief Shelby Blythe, which resulted in Blythe’s car running off the road and striking a tree and embankment. Wilson, 29, was able to get his personal vehicle stopped with his emergency brake at the bottom of the hill. Blythe, 59, was transported to the hospital and released the same evening. Wilson was not injured in the accident. Everyone involved is doing well and in good spirits, the Fire Department said. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) responded to the wreck and said both people were wearing seat belts and that no charges would be filed.
