Lifestar makes emergency landing

A Lifestar medical helicopter made an emergency landing on Saturday evening around 7 p.m. at the former CO-OP on North Main Street in Sweetwater. Sweetwater Police Chief Eddie Byrum said no patients were on board and no one was injured. A mechanical issue caused the unscheduled landing. The helicopter stayed parked at that location overnight but was able to fly on Sunday after being checked out. Lifestar has a permanent base at Interstate 75 near the Monroe County and McMinn County line. This file photo from 2016 was taken at the grand opening for the local base.
