Mayford H. Baker

Mayford H. Baker of Sweetwater, went home to be with the
Lord on Friday, June 27, at 11:45 a.m., at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville.
He was a member of Glenlock Baptist Church in Sweetwater. He was the owner of
Baker Oil Company in Lenoir City for 33 years and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was 74.
Preceded in death by: parents, James and Ella Mae Baker; and
brother, Carlos Baker.
Survivors include: wife of 52 years-Mary Lou Baker;
Son-Danny Ray and wife Katherine Baker, all of Sweetwater;
Grandchildren-Darby, Sammy and Jaci Baker, all of
Sweetwater;
Many loving nieces and nephews and friends;
Special niece-Lakin Boyd of St. Augustine, Fla.;
Longtime employee-Rick Williams;
Sisters-in-law-Bernice Kyle, Freda Green and Alice Greene;
Brother-in-law-Ray Greene and Murrel Kyle;
Sister-Ruth Galyon of Alcoa;
Sisters and brothers-in-law-Barbara and W.C. Rucker of
Athens; Gertrude and Keith Cable of Townsend; Katherine and J.C. Reed of
Nashville;
Sister-in-law-Paul Ann Baker of Lenoir City;
Brother and sister-in-law-Kenneth and Carol Baker of
Knoxville.
Special thanks to Brian and Stacy at UT Hospital; Dr. Eric
Poston and staff of Sweetwater; Dr. Cole and staff at Select Specialty at Fort
Sanders Regional Hospital for their special care.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, with
the funeral to follow in Kyker’s Chapel, with Rev. Buford Albright and Rev. Rod
Miller officiating. Graveside service and interment will be 11 a.m., Tuesday,
in the New Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Mitch Isbill
officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the VFW Gold Star Post
5156 and members of the DAV of Monroe County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to the Gideons International. Pallbears will be David Allmond, Kyle
Allmond, Nathan Boyd, Doug Clower, Charles Greene and Murrel Kyle. Kyker
Funeral Home, Sweetwater, in charge of arrangements.
