Bobby E. Hicks

Bobby E. Hicks of Lenoir City, died Tuesday, June 30, at Select Specialist Hospital in St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville. He was born on March 27, 1935 in Spring City. The family moved to Sweetwater at an early age where he graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1953. Bobby graduated from Tennessee Tech, Cookeville in 1957, earning a BS in Social Studies. He went on to earn a master's degree in History from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Bobby also earned an EDS degree, from Tennessee Tech. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard for six years from 1957-1963, serving six months in the Army. He was retired from the Lenoir City School System, having taught for 38 years as a Social Studies teacher. Bobby taught his first year at Sweetwater High School before going into the Army. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lenoir City, where he had been a member for 51 years having taught Sunday School for most of those years. He was presently teacher of the Fellowship Class at Trinity and was also Lay Leader for more than 25 years and served on many boards and committees.

Preceded in death by: his parents, Bruce A. and Louise Dixon Hicks; infant brother, Bruce A. Hicks Jr., and niece, Heather Hicks of Michigan.

Survivors include: his wife of 51 years-Flo Lynn Thornbury Hicks of Lenoir City;

Son-Christopher E. Hicks of Lenoir City;

Brother and wife-Donald and Wanda Hicks of Commerce Township, Mich.;

Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge the doctors, nurses, and staff at Park West Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville for the wonderful care they gave Bobby. They will be forever grateful for all their support. The family would especially like to thank his cardiologist, Dr. Greg Brewer, for going above and beyond in treating Bobby at Park West Hospital. Also many thanks to Dr. Tadhg Hart, his primary physician, and staff for caring for Bobby all the years. Thanks to all of Bobby's friends who were so caring and supportive during this time.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. at the church with Rev. Gary Baker and Rev. Kim Isley officiating. Family and friends will gather at Loudon County Memorial Gardens for graveside services at 10 a.m. Friday. Serving as pallbearers: Glenn Williams, Joe Allen Hall, Ronnie Ledbetter, Donald Perkey, Jim McReynolds and Robert White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Class of Trinity United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lenoir City, TN 37771 or the charity of your choice. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
