James E. "Jim"
Stevens of Sweetwater, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14. Mr. Stevens was a
member and deacon of the North Sweetwater Baptist Church and was retired from
the Sweetwater Police Department. He was a veteran of World War II, having
served in the U.S. Army.
He was 89.
Preceded in
death by: his wife, Kate Colquitt Stevens; daughter and son-in-law, Mary
Elizabeth and Sherman Watson; parents, Henry and Mamie Sue Stevens; sister,
Margaret Haskins; and brothers, Earl and Elbert Stevens.
Survivors
include: grandson and wife-Gary D. and Donna Watson of Knoxville;
Granddaughter-Tracey
Watson of Sweetwater;
Great-granddaughters-Jennifer
and Allison Watson of Knoxville;
Sister-Lena
Belle Floyd of Sweetwater;
Sister-in-law-Huttie
Bledsoe of Sweetwater;
Several nieces
and nephews.
The family will
receive friends on Monday, Nov. 16, at the North Sweetwater Baptist Church from
6-8 p.m. with the funeral service to follow with Rev. Don Rockholt and Dr.
Gerald Atkins officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on
Tuesday at the Sweetwater Memorial Park for an 11 a.m. interment with full
military honors provided by the Sweetwater V.F.W. Gold Star Post #5156 and
members of the Monroe County D.A.V. Chapter 93. Sweetwater Memory Chapel in
charge of arrangements.
