Lucy Kate Bivens, of Tellico Plains, went to her Heavenly home to spend eternity with Jesus and loved ones, on Friday morning, May 10, 2019.

Kate was born in Columbiana, Ala., on March 22, 1935. She married her soulmate, the Rev. J.C. Bivens, in the hardware store in Athens, on Jan. 17, 1953. She stood by his side through years of pastoring and preaching God’s Word. They enjoyed spending summers as camp hosts at Indian Boundary Camp Ground, and were loved by the Tellico Rangers.

Kate was a famous cook, well known for her awesome biscuits. Mary Jane Brunette loved having dinner and fellowshipping with Kate and J.C. on many occasions, as did many others. We are comforted in knowing we will meet her again.

She was 84 years old.

Preceded in death by: her husband, the Rev. J.C. Bivens; parents, Hartful Jones, Mandie Jones Burnett and Velt Burnett; sisters, Ada Jones, Gladys (Lorene) Jones Harrill Pratt, Velma Jones Bivens; brothers, Amos and Chandler Jones.

Survivors include: her only daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and John Coolidge, of Jackson-Kate loved John dearly;

Grandsons, Cody Bryan Hollingshead, of Madisonville, Logan Derek Hollingshead and granddaughter-in-law, Lindsay Hollingshead, of Hickory, N.C., Major Chase Hollingshead, of Monroe, Ga.;

Great-granddaughter, Ella Kate Hollingshead-Kate’s pride and joy and namesake;

Special persons, Talitha Freeman, Don Hollingshead, father of Cody, Logan and Major Hollingshead--Kate loved Don dearly, and Carol Underwood;

Special friends, Juanita Davis, Brian Peckinpaugh, and many sister/brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Our love, thanks, and blessings go to all who have offered their support to the family of Kate Bivens during our time of need. Your visits, flowers, phone calls, cards, thoughts and prayers have truly helped to strengthen and encourage us. Thank you so very much and we pray God’s Blessings to you all. The Coolidge’s, Hollingshead’s, Bivens, Harrill’s, Jones and everyone else not mentioned.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday May, 17 2019, at Bierely-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Bivens officiating, and Dr. Joe Brown delivering the eulogy and poem honoring the late Rev. Walter Harold Bivens. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Ballplay Gospel Tabernacle Church of God cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Carlos Bivens, Jonathan Bivens, Wayne Bivens, Roger Bivens, Doug Ledford, James Harrill, Joe Brown and Lowell Cross.
