Floyd A. De Boef, left this world peacefully, family at bedside, on Dec. 31, 2018, in the Sweetwater Nursing Center in Sweetwater.

Floyd was the eldest of three sons, born to Arthur H. and Gertie Belle (Hasselman) De Boef on June 18, 1923. Floyd attended Lacey School (Iowa) and engaged in farming in Mahaska County, Iowa. When World War II broke out he enlisted in the Navy, June 1943-March 1946, and served in the Pacific and Mediterranean Theatres aboard PT boats and USS LSM 131.

When he returned from service, he met and married Harriett Brush in 1947. They started farming in rural New Sharon, Iowa, and raised three children, Connie De Boef (Baileys Harbor, Wisc.), Beverly Taylor (Madisonville), and David De Boef (Las Vegas, Nev.).

Floyd and Harriett left the farm and moved to Pella, Iowa in 1996. Floyd continued to work 12 years for Funks/Ciba Giegy Seed Co. and Hawkeye Seed in Pella, Iowa. He traveled several states planting plots.

Floyd enjoyed over 20 years of sailing the “Spindrift,” with his first mate Harriett.

Floyd and Harriett volunteered with Heifer International, as well as United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, traveling to Louisiana and Mexico. Over the years, Floyd actively served on the Extension Council, Farm Bureau, and American Legion.

In 2001, they moved to Madisonville. Floyd spent the remainder of his years working at Fort Loudoun State Park in Vonore in the visitor center.

Floyd will always be remembered for his love of nature, the land, and the sea. Some of his greatest joys in later years were spending time with his family, working at the Fort (Loudoun), tending his flowers, and feeding his birds.
