Fredie S. Cooter, of Niota, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, July 22, 2019. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Retired from the McMinn County Highway Department. Best known for singing with the Oakwood Brothers Bluegrass Gospel group. He loved watching the U.T. Vols football games with his grandkids.

He was 71 years old.

Preceded in death by: his parents, Billie and Opal Cooter; brother, Bennie Cooter; father-in-law, Jerrod Phelps; mother-in-law, Ann Phelps Hedge.

Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Cooter, of Niota; Daughters and sons-in-law, Angela (Tim) Willis, of Cookeville, Michelle and Jason Black, of Kingston, Terah Smith, of Sweetwater;

Seven grandchildren;

Brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerrod “Moochie” and Deb Phelps, of Harriman, Iva Cooter, of Chattanooga;

Several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Kyker Funeral Homes in Sweetwater. The funeral service followed at 7 p.m. in Kyker’s Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Dawson, and Brother Jason Black officiating. Interment was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, in the Beulah Chapel Church Cemetery.
