Mazel Lillma McKenzie, 91, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, passed away on Dec. 16, 2019.
Mazel was born at home in the Ironsburg community of Monroe County, Tennessee, on Aug. 12, 1928, to William Melvin and Ada Magnet (Jones) Tilley as the second of eight children. She married William Austin McKenzie on June 17, 1946, in Blairsville, Georgia.They had four children.
Mazel was greeted in heaven by: her parents; her husband; her son, Jonathan Peter (1950); and her siblings, Irene Hutchison (1998), RuthAnna Howell (2004), Phyllis Webb (2009), Melvin, Jr. (2012), Blanche Howell (2018), and Sylvia Norwood Givens (2019).
Mazel is survived by: her children, James (Debra) McKenzie, of Madisonville, Michael (Patricia) McKenzie, of Etowah, and Susan Herndon, of Daleville, Alabama;
Grandchildren, Mark McKenzie, of Etowah, Jamie McKenzie(Nona), of Etowah, Jodi (Jason) Watkins, of Madisonville, Samantha (Jerrod) Beck, of Elba, Alabama, and Jonathan Herndon, of Searsport, Maine;
Great-grandchildren, Jared Watkins, Jalyn Watkins, Derek McKenzie, Brody McKenzie, Alyssa Akers, Jace Beck, and Wyatt Beck;
Brother, Samuel Tilley, of West Jordan, Utah;
Numerous nieces and nephews.
No services are planned in respect to Mazel’s final wishes. Her children request that family and friends make a memorial donation to their charity of choice.
A special thank you is extended to the staff and residents of Etowah Healthcare Center and Nursing Home for their kindness and care during Mazel’s stay.
