Winnie Edna Haywood Estes, of Vonore, passed away on Jan. 18, 2019, while visiting the home of daughters Linda and Debra in Canandaigua, N.Y. Edna spent the last 40 years in Vonore, and will be remembered for her love of family and sitting on her porch swing, where a blend of warm conversations, coffee, home-cooked food, and the quiet of the hills drew her loved ones together. Her enjoyment of gardening, walking and reading were Edna’s favorite pursuits.

She was 92 years old.

Preceded in death by: her husband, John Ralph Estes, 33 years ago. Over their years of marriage they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, as John had been stationed in numerous places; Germany and California are two of many. Preceded in death also by: her sister, Helen Hill; brothers, Austin and Shelby Haywood; daughter, Charlotte Foster; granddaughter, Maryann McMurray.

Survivors include: her siblings, Wanda Wells of Friendsville, Beryl Felts of Texas, Luecita Miracle of Kentucky;

Children, Mark (Donna) Estes of San Antonio, Texas, Linda Fathergill and Debra Estes of Canandaigua N.Y., Carl (Candy) of Vonore, and son-in-law David Hedrick of Knoxville;

Thirteen grandchildren, Aaron McMurray, Tiffany (Chris) Moody, Becki (Steve) Potter, Michelle Meenan, Robert (Kathryn) Meenan, Jessica (Caleb) Sherrill, Joshua Estes, Caleb (Morgan) Estes, TJ Fathergill, John Estes, Fisher Estes and Adam Estes.

Ten great-grandchildren;

Three great-great-grandchildren;

Many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

All of these people knew that Edna loved her “home in the holler” in Citico fiercely, and all loved to spend time with her there.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Citico Cemetery where final respects will be made.
