Mary Alice “Peggy” Garst was born on June 20, 1925, and passed from this life on Jan. 18, 2019, peacefully in her home in Jonesboro, Ark.

She was the youngest of four born to Bernice Jenkins White and Richard White in Chattanooga. She married Marion Lyle Garst, a World War II veteran, on Jan. 20, 1941. They were married 60 years, when her husband passed in 2001. She was a baptized member of Northside Christian Church in Jonesboro, and attended regularly.

Miss Peggy was a nurse for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 81. She was a loving mother, and although raised a city girl, she adapted to farm life when they moved to eastern Kansas. She loved the old hymns and 1940s and 1950s music, to grow houseplants, do needle work, and visitors.

Preceded in death by: the love of her life, Lyle; parents; one brother; two sisters.

Survivors include: her four children, Richard (Gloria) Garst of Pinckard, Ala., Frances (Eldon) Richardson and Patricia Stauffer, all of Jonesboro, Dale (Kathy) Garst of Coker Creek;

Thirteen grandchildren;

Eighteen great-grandchildren;

Eighteen great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will follow at 2 p.m. at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel, with Eldon Richardson and Marcus Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.
