James Rankin Newman, of Madisonville, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. He was born in Rural Retreat, Va., on July 26, 1951. He graduated from East Tennessee State University, and later retired from the Tennessee Department of Corrections as chief of the Madisonville Probation and Parole Division in 2010.

He was 67 years old.

Preceded in death by: his mother, Helen B. Newman; father, Roy F. Newman.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 45 years, Vivian Newman;

Devoted daughter, Saran Newman;

Adoring granddaughter, Claire V. DeMoss;

Brothers, John F. Newman and wife Terry Newman of Bent Mountain, Va., Jeffrey K. Newman and wife Linda Newman of Crockett, Va.;

Nephew, Joshua Newman;

Nieces, Natalie Newman, Amanda Newman, Rene Newtson.

He requested that no memorial service be conducted, however, a private celebration of his life will be held at his church in Crockett, Va.
