My mind is so full of wedding plans right now I don't have a topic to write about today.

Kayla is getting married Saturday, three days from now. The thought struck me this morning: How can I give away something that I have cherished for more than 18 years to someone I have only known for about 18 months? What am I thinking?

It sounds worse each day. Don't get me wrong. I love Michael. He's a great guy.

Then, my good friend and co-worker Melissa West said, "Well, Sharon, you don't have much choice."

I have been living with this gnawing ache deep down inside me and until she made that statement, I didn't know what it was. I now realize it is helplessness. I feel so helpless.

This situation is not in my control and it's killing me. If I could just tell Kayla what she needs to do and her do it, then I would feel a whole lot better. I know I can't do that. If I did she would never be able to handle her own life.

My baby has grown up and I have to let her be an adult, even if it kills me. Everyone please say a prayer for us Saturday to help us get through this happy/sad day!

My church, First Assembly of God, is having our Son Fun Vacation Bible School Monday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 22, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. This is open for children 4-12 years of age. We will have games, bouncy houses and much more.

The church is located on Highway 11 just past the Kmart in Sweetwater. Parents you are welcome to stay with your children. For more information, call 423-337-6037.

I had the honor of being asked to work on the committee to plan the Independence Day Celebration this year. I know the first thing that pops into your mind is: Are you going to have fireworks this year?

The answer is yes; yes, we are. We are not going to let what happened last year make us afraid to put on the best show we can.

We have hired a new company, Pyro Shows, and they are the same people that put on the Boomsday show and they do a fabulous job.

I am looking forward to it this year. We will have whiffle ball, a kids zone, music by several local bands, including gospel music by The Hymnsmen, performances by Salt & Light Studios, food vendors, several arts and crafts vendors and much, much more.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. and the ceremony will be at the gazebo at 2:30 p.m. The festivities kick-off at 3 p.m. and will go all day until the fireworks at dusk. Vendor space is still available. Contact Sweetwater City Hall at 423-337-6979 for more information.
