Tellico River Cleanup was a success
We would like to say a special “thank you” to all the volunteers and sponsors of the Tellico River Cleanup.
The Tellico River Cleanup was a huge success last Saturday despite gloomy weather. We had 145 participants who collected a total of 223 bags of trash. This included a collection of interesting items, such as a wheelbarrow, a headlight, hubcaps, a cellphone, and a few unidentifiable objects. The wheel barrow won the grand prize for the most unusual object. The winner was presented a gift certificate from the Starr Mountain Outfitters. Prizes from SMO were given for other items found.
Lunch was provided by the Chattanooga Trout Association. Trout Unlimited bought T-shirts this year while TVA provided bags and gloves. As always, Travis Scott’s chili was a big hit.
Trustees from Monroe County picked up North River from Highway 165 to Tellico River, which was a huge accomplishment. They had 15 folks and picked up 45 bags. Sandy Akins with Keep Monroe County Beautiful (KMCB) coordinated that part of the cleanup. KMCB also provided litter bags, pick-up sticks as prizes, and other goodies.
We would like to thank everyone who helped for their time and dedication. It takes a team of great folks to pull something this big off in grand fashion. I heard a lot of compliments and thanks from the volunteers. Thank you again and we will do it again next year!
