George Lindy McConkey (Oct. 26, 2009) George Lindy McConkey of Madisonville, passed away at 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, at UT Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War. He retired after many years as a mechanical engineer, serving in many parts of the world. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was 79. Preceded in death by: sisters, Dorothy Eddleman Hambaugh, Jane Eddleman Lee and Anna Ruth Lee Bartlett. Survivors include: wife-Johnnie Sue Stakely McConkey; Daughter and son-in-law-Terri and Freddie Kelley of Madisonville; Son and daughter-in-law-Tim and Esther McConkey of Wartrace; Five grandchildren; One great-grandson; Stepchildren-Kathy McConkey and Allen McConkey and wife, Melissa, all of Madisonville; One step-granddaughter; Sisters-Barbara Lee Pennington of Madisonville; and Sarah Lee Orman of Soddy Daisy; Brothers-Alton Eddleman of Boerne, Texas; David W. Lee of Lenoir City; and Irad W. Lee of Madisonville; Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Wednesday, in Biereley-Hale Chapel, with the Rev. Frank Hicks officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m., Thursday, in the Sitzlar Family Cemetery at Eleazar. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., before the funeral.
