(Last modified: 2008-06-16 09:01:08) For the last two weeks, one job in Monroe County has received more attention than anyone would have ever imagined. The coaching search at Sequoyah has taken some interesting, and embarrassing, turns. Forget who’s right and who’s wrong through all of this. A definite plan of action for times like these would go a long way in helping ease some of the pain and frustration caused by the events that have taken place recently. A definite policy of who chooses the coaches, how they’re chosen, and what steps to follow needs to be a priority to the members of the Monroe County School Board. This has nothing to do with Bill Satterfield or any other coach that could have been brought in to coach at Sequoyah. It has to do with the current system, which has no rules. After talking to former assistant coach and athletic director David Gregory, it seemed as though there was a gentleman’s agreement that Gregory and Sequoyah principal Maurice Moser would be the ones choosing the next coach. Next time, let’s not rely on that. Have a clear and set plan of action that’s unifrom for all sports. Make one policy, for all sports, and spell out very specifically what avenues applicants must go through to be eligible for the job and who is in charge of what areas of the process. It’s too important not to. Copyright © 2008, The Advocate and Democrat |
