(Last modified: 2008-06-20 08:16:17) Alan Dewayne Belcher, 40, Creek Road, Sweetwater, was finally arrested on Wednesday. The Sweetwater Police Department took three warrants out on him in August 2007. At the time the warrants were taken out, Sweetwater Police Officer Brandon Cansler reported that he met Belcher driving a van on Vonore Road with no lights on. When Cansler turned around to check out the vehicle, Belcher sped away, still with no lights on, and began passing cars. Belcher continued to speed away, turning on Mahala Road, even after Cansler activated his blue lights. Belcher crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Mahala Road and Edgewood Drive, and then fled on foot into a wooded area. Cansler reported finding several items and liquids inside the abandoned vehicle that are used to manufacture methamphetamine. It was also discovered that Belcher’s license had been suspended in 2006 for failure to maintain proof of insurance in Loudon County. He is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, felony fleeing and driving on a suspended license. Copyright © 2008, The Advocate and Democrat |
