Vonore officers were dispatched to an accident June 19 near the boat dock on Fowler Street in Vonore. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a blue van had backed up too far and had backed into a ditch. Both the driver and the vehicle were uninjured, but a tow truck had to be called to pull the van out.

The driver, William Perry Mason, 31, Rafter Road, Tellico Plains, had a strong odor of intoxication and performed poorly on sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence.
Meanwhile, while one officer was administering the sobriety tests, another observed Daniel Vines, 48, annoying the fire crew and tow truck driver, who were also at the scene. The officer asked Vines if he had been drinking, to which Vines replied that he had a fifth of vodka. Vines was arrested for public intoxication, and both he and Mason were taken to the Monroe County Jail.
