A Madisonville man was arrested on drug charges Sunday after he was pulled over for having the wrong tags on his car.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy James Wall said he stopped Kodie Mason, 18, North Tellico Street, after the tag on the Saturn he was driving came back as belonging to a Ford Ranger.

Wall said Mason had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol and when asked for his license, said he’d never had one.

Wall received consent to search the vehicle and found three baggies containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a backpack in the trunk that contained items that can be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. These items included coffee filters, lithium batteries, Red Devil Lye and muratic acid.

Mason is charged with possession of a Schedule VI narcotic for resale, initiating the  manufacture of methamphetamine, underage consumption and driving without a license.
