Hiwassee College greeted new students and their parents during an orientation day held Saturday, June 14. This was the first of three orientation days to be held by Hiwassee this summer.  Additional orientation days will be held Friday, July 11, and Monday, Aug. 11. “This fall we expect a good class of quality students at Hiwassee,” says college President Jim Noseworthy.

Registration for fall semester is Monday, Aug. 18, and classes begin the following day. “Now’s a great time to enroll for fall,” states Director of Admissions Jodie Moser. During orientation, students take placement tests, secure housing, meet and speak with their advisors, and learn more about what to expect come fall at Hiwassee.  Parents learn too.

“Orientation is a great time for parents to meet faculty, administration and staff and to answer any concerns they may have about their son or daughter’s upcoming experience here,” says Noseworthy.  “We always keep in mind, that for many families, this is the first time their child has been away from home for any lengthy period of time. They have entrusted Hiwassee with their most cherished gifts. We take that responsibility very seriously.”

Parents also learn about scholarships and financial aid packages Hiwassee has available. “Historically, 80 percent of Hiwassee students receive some form of financial assistance,” states Ron Hemphill, Vice President for Financial Aid.
