(Last modified: 2008-06-30 08:22:33) The County Commission approved several committee appointments and budget amendments at its June 24 meeting. The committee appointments include: Doug Heuer to a three-year term on the Tellico Area Services System board Bill Howe and William Kavanaugh to four-year terms on the County Planning Commission, Dave Fankhauser to fill the unexpired term of the late Charles Tate on the Planning Commission, Sam Stamey to fill the unexpired term of the late John Barr, and Chad Kirkpatrick to replace Mike Tallent, who is resigning after 12 years on the board. Dr. Hasnykh Kanabar, Dr. Beverly Harrell, Jim Wilson, Shannon Swanson, Dr. Wendy Saint Robbins, Mayor Allan Watson, Director of Schools Mike Lowry, Dr. Jim Dash, and Marlene Kenney to two-year terms on the Health Board. The budget amendments included: An additional $10,000 in the general fund budget for autopsies. A $7,275.80 increase in expenditures for painting of the General Sessions building; the money for the repairs was taken from the rent the district attorney’s office pays on the building. A $4,062.53 decrease in the hotel/motel tax reserve fund for additional work at the Hillconn (Volunteer Fastener) site in the Niles Ferry Industrial Park. Seventy-five percent of the hotel/motel tax collected at local lodging business is allocated for industrial development with the other 25 percent going to the county’s Department of Tourism. The County Commission meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Courthouse. There will be a budget workshop at 7 p.m. July 17 at the J.P. Kennedy annex.
