Millsaps said he spotted the blue Lincoln on Bank Street and attempted to stop the car, but it took off at a high rate of speed. The driver, later identified as Terry Lee Harris Jr., 22, Church Street, turned onto Highway 165, then on Veteran’s Memorial Drive before driving onto Unicoi Lane at speeds up to 60 mph. Harris drove onto Swainson Street and Smith Street before running a stop sign and pulling into his driveway on Church Street. Millsaps took Harris into custody and found a pipe in his left front shorts pocket and a plastic bag containing a green leafy material thought to be marijuana. He also found a set of scales in the center console of the car Harris was driving. Harris is charged with simple possession of marijuana, felony evading arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. • Elliott Keith Burnette, 40, Old Mine Road, Sweetwater, was arrested Saturday, June 28 and charged with possession of a Schedule IV drug. The arresting officer spotted Burnette sitting in his car in front of the Jiffy Mart on Main Street, Sweetwater. Burnette had three blue, oval shaped pills on a glass plate in one hand, and a cellophane cigarette wrapper with 12 more blue pills in the other. The pills were Xanax 1mg (alprazolam), a Schedule IV narcotic. Burnette did not have a prescription for the pills. Copyright © 2008, The Advocate and Democrat |
