A Madisonville businessman who pulled a gun on a man who stole some checks from his business, pleaded guilty to reduced charges in Monroe County General Sessions Court last week.

Dennis G. Plemons, 63, Highway 411, Madisonville, had been charged with aggravated assault in the June incident, but pleaded the charge down to reckless endangerment.

Plemons received a $100 fine and an 11/29 suspended sentence for his plea. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and forfeit the .22-caliber gun he used in the incident. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of vandalism, receiving an 11/29 suspended sentence and must make restitution of $65 to Scott Baughn.

Baughn, 27, Anderson Road, Sweetwater, had 10 counts of forgery dismissed in June, but was ordered to make restitution on two counts of theft. One of those receiving restitution of $450 is Charles Plemons, son of Dennis Plemons, who pulled the gun on Baughn June 2.

Plemons turned himself in to the Monroe County Jail a few days after the incident when Monroe County Sheriff’s Detective Pat Henry issued a warrant for his arrest.

Plemons pulled the gun on Scott Baughn after Baughn came to the Boomerang Sports Bar off Highway 411 and Plemons accused him of stealing the checks.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Ray Haynes said he went to the bar and found Plemons holding a gun on Baughn. Haynes said he got the gun from Plemons and asked him what was going on.

Plemons told Haynes he saw Baughn pull into the parking lot and, believing Baughn had stolen some checks from the bar, told him to sit down while Plemons called the law.

Baughn said no and Plemons pulled the gun from behind the bar, but Baughn attempted to leave and Plemons followed him into the parking lot where Plemons shot out a tire on Baughn’s Jeep.

Baughn told Haynes he had pulled into the bar’s parking lot, been threatened by Plemons and when he tried to leave, Plemons pulled the gun from the door of a vehicle and put it in Baughn’s face. When Baughn tried to leave, Plemons shot the ground at Baughn’s feet and told him not to move.

Baughn said Plemons then shot the Jeep’s tire out, put the gun back in his face and told him if he tried to leave, he would shoot him in the face.
