(Last modified: 2009-10-12 09:45:02) Artist Diana Ferguson, a relatively new Monroe County resident, has been working quietly in a top-floor warehouse space in Sweetwater. She is excited to host her first open studio from 3-6 p.m., Oct. 17, at 816 N. Main St.
Ferguson works with textiles and creates garments and art quilts using a unique collage technique. Along with herself, she is hosting three other local artists, Marlys Bernard, Geri Forkner and Nancy Wilhite. Bernard, a resident from Athens is an avid quilter. She is a fountain of knowledge and has lately been drawn to art quilting. The art deco period holds a fascination for her and she has been exploring the era with her quilted art pieces. Forkner, a Sweetwater resident, has been a major influence in the weaving community for years. Her expertise is in weaving, felting and spinning. She is also the driving force behind the "Tennessee Presents Textiles" show scheduled for November, 2010. She will present a new body of work dealing with paper weaving at the opening. Wilhite, also from Sweetwater, is a contemporary jewelry designer. She shows in many galleries and brings a fresh view to her work utilizing silver and semi-precious stones. Come and enjoy an afternoon celebration of art and meet the artists. The event is open to the public. Copyright © 2010, The Advocate and Democrat |
