The Redskins scored the necessary two runs to end the
game under the mercy rule on Dain McNabb’s two-run
home run with two outs in the top of the sixth.

This was the second big win over the Chiefs by the
Redskins in less then a week. Loudon posted a 14-4
victory in a game last Wednesday. The highlight of that
game for Sequoyah was a three-run home run by
freshman DeAndre Allen.

It was the final regular season game for the Chiefs who
honored seniors Brandon Webb, Adam Bushey and Robby
Leslie in pre-game ceremonies.
Sequoyah will begin play in the District 5-AA tournament
Thursday afternoon in Benton on Polk County’s home field
versus Tyner Academy of Chattanooga.

Loudon pitcher Joey Shultz held the Chiefs to only four
base hits, all singles.
Leslie, Elisha Moser, Randall Coley and DeAndre Allen each
hit safely for Sequoyah. Moser and Webb scored for the
home team.
Sequoyah head coach Adam Kefauver divided the pitching
duties among three Chiefs.

Webb threw the first two innings and kept Loudon hitless
and scoreless with the help of some sterling play by the
Chiefs’ defense.
After mowing down the Redskins in order in the first,
Webb walked McNabb and Jordan Purdy to open the
second stanza.
Blake Cosner then grounded to short where Allen tagged
second then threw to first where a big-league stretch by
Leslie completed the double play.

Blake McNew was then hit by a Webb pitch but wandered
too far off first and was picked off with a 1-3-6-1, Webb
to Leslie to Allen to Webb, pick off to end the inning.
Bushey threw the third inning for Sequoyah but saw the
Redskin bats come alive to push six runs across the plate
on four hits.

Moser followed and threw one frame for the home team
and allowed three runs on three hits.
Gary Cagle hurled the final frame for the Chiefs and
allowed two runs on two hits.
McNew led Loudon at the bat with a triple and a single.
McNabb had the home run, Shultz had two singles,
Matthew Wallace had two doubles, Ben Curtis had a
double and a single and Tyler Campbell singled.

Shultz opened the Loudon third with a single, Anthony
Powell walked and Curtis laid a perfect bunt down the
third base line for a single to fill the bags with Redskins.
Campbell drew an RBI walk before Wallace launched a
three run double. Devon Grissom took a base on balls
then he and Wallace scored ahead of Shultz second hit of
the inning and Loudon led 6-0.

The Redskins continued to swing hot bats in the fourth
when they added four runs to swell their advantage to 10-
0.
Sequoyah got on the scoreboard in the home half of the
fourth.
Moser led off with a single and stole second base.

Webb walked and both runners moved up on a passed ball
Moser then scored off Brett Hawkins RBI grounder and
Webb raced home when Cole singled later in the inning.
Shultz was dominate through the remainder of the
contest as he struck out five of the last seven batters
Sequoyah sent to the plate.

Campbell singled for Loudon with one out in the fifth and
stole second then was tagged out by Coley at third when
he tried to steal that base.
Coley made a great stop of a chopper by Wallace but the
runner beat the throw and was safe.

That got McNabb to the plate where he launched a
towering home run to provide Loudon with the runs
needed to end the contest.

Allen singled for Sequoyah in the fifth but was stranded.
