Everything was working for Sweetwater on Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats fired on all cylinders, scoring double-digit runs while holding CAK scoreless in a six-inning, run-rule victory at home.
Emily Barnes pitched the complete game for Sweetwater and recorded the shutout, allowing no runs and just three hits. Her impact was heavily felt by the Lady Warriors’ hitters, with the junior notching eight total strikeouts in the game.
Mari Robbins kicked off the scoring for Sweetwater in the bottom of the first inning, hitting a solo homer to put the Lady Wildcats ahead by a run. Freshman Ally Starnes scored on a passed ball as well before the inning concluded, pushing the Lady Wildcats’ lead to 2-0.
Junior Addie Lowe batted in Robbins on an RBI single and sophomore Abby Starnes scored Lowe with an RBI double in the bottom of the third to push Sweetwater’s lead to 4-0.
More RBIs followed for the Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the fourth, with Robbins notching another on a double and Lowe driving home sophomore Emily Allen and Robbins on a single. Lowe also scored on a passed ball in the inning to give the Lady Wildcats a strong 8-0 advantage.
Sweetwater didn’t score again until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Allen stole home to score and freshmen Kylie Hicks batted in Lowe and Jenna Gibson, forcing the run-rule and ending the game with an 11-0 Sweetwater victory.
Lowe led the Lady Wildcats with three total RBIs. She and Robbins each also scored three runs themselves, pacing the roster in that category.
Sweetwater will face the Lady Warriors again on Monday, when the Lady Wildcats will travel to CAK for an early-week contest. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
