When the Sweetwater boys basketball team fell 68-57 at Kingston on Dec. 3, it marked not only the Wildcats’ first loss of the season, but also an important moment for a young team used to winning game after game.
On Friday, that same team got revenge and, perhaps, saw some if its development come full circle.
Sweetwater defeated Kingston 61-55 in a double overtime slugfest, staving off the Yellowjackets on Homecoming at the Den.
Kingston (8-4, 0-2 District 4-AA) led 22-19 at halftime, but Sweetwater (12-3, 3-1 District 5-AA) came back to tie the game, 44-44, by the end of regulation.
After staying knotted with the Yellowjackets after the first overtime period, the Wildcats were able to pull away for the win in the second.
Sweetwater’s girls team dropped its game to Kingston, 39-28.
