With district softball tournaments now over, some local players have received All-District honors.

Sweetwater’s Mari Robbins, just a sophomore, was named District 5-AA MVP, while freshman Ally Starnes was honored as District 5-AA Newcomer of the Year. Sequoyah’s Olivia Underwood was named the district’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Sweetwater players Addie Lowe, Emily Barnes, Robbins, Starnes, Abby Starnes and Kylie Hicks were selected for the All-District 5-AA team. Lowe and Barnes served as the Lady Wildcats’ primary pitchers, and Lowe has been one of its key offensive threats, while Robbins offers speedy base running and powerful hitting.

Abby Starnes produced well as a sophomore, while Ally Starnes and Kylie Hicks showed a ton of potential as freshmen in the program.

Lady Chiefs Maycee Bovard, Abbey Borden, Kinsey Phenix and Tristan Bradley represented Sequoyah on the All-District team. Bradley was a key starting pitcher for Sequoyah, and Bovard, Borden and Phenix all helped the Lady Chiefs mark their prowess as a deadly power-hitting team.

For District 4-A, Tellico Plains players Haley McGowan, Ireland Whitmire, Kelsie Jones and Kendra Watson were named All-District as well.

Each player was strong offensively for the Lady Bears, while Watson also served as one of their starting pitchers, offering a veteran presence in the circle for Tellico Plains.

All county softball teams ended as either runners-up or champions of their respective district tournaments and moved on to region play.
