After a slow start, the Tellico Plains Lady Bears had a big third quarter to comfortably take the win in their region quarterfinal on Friday, 52-35, over visiting Oliver Springs.
Lady Bear Chloe Yearwood got the scoring off to a great start with a 3-pointer to start the game but the Lady Bears had a hard time finding the basket the rest of the quarter and found themselves on the wrong half of an 8-5 score. Yearwood would kick it into gear in the second quarter and net nine points in a 15-point quarter to propel the Lady Bears to a 20-15 lead at halftime.
She would then continue her hot play in the third quarter and score nine more points, mostly on steals and converting lay ups in their full court pressure. Tellico would net 16 in the quarter and hold Oliver Springs to just four points and take a commanding 36-19 lead into the final frame.
Even though the Bobcats cut into the lead at times in the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears cruised to the 52-35 win.
Lady Bears scoring: Yearwood- 25, Samantha Russell- 10, Kori Hamiliton- 9, Jaden Hollinghead- 4, Tess Pearson and Joell Stinnett each with 2 points.
