Several local baseball players were named to All-District teams for the 2019 season.
Junior Tyler Hall and seniors Luke Mashburn and Matthew Cooper represented Sweetwater on the All-District 5-AA team. Hall was a leader for the Wildcats behind the plate at catcher, while Mashburn and Cooper provided senior leadership, with Mashburn strong offensively and Cooper a force on the mound.
The Wildcats’ season ended on Monday, May 6, with a loss to Meigs County in the district tournament. Sweetwater beat McMinn Central and lost to Loudon as well in the tournament.
For Sequoyah, seniors Josh Stakely and John-Douglas Wiggins were picked for the All-District 5-AA team. The two veterans produced well offensively, and Wiggins was also a standout pitcher for the Chiefs.
Sequoyah ended its 2019 season after being eliminated by Meigs County in its first game of the district tournament.
Tellico Plains junior Ty Hamilton and sophomore Bo Elliott were named to the All-District 4-A team. Hamilton served in a multi-faceted role for the Bears, listed as an outfielder and shortstop as well as working as one of Tellico’s leading pitchers, while Elliott led Tellico’s defense behind the plate at catcher and provided one of the Bears’ best power-hitting options offensively.
The Bears finished as runners-up in the District 4-A tournament to guarantee a spot in the Region 2 tournament.
