Boxing Club

All local boxers from the Monroe County Boxing Club won their individual bouts during the Rumble event last year. Pictured are Logan Pruitt, Lane Strickland, Clay Strickland, Danilo Camacho and Will Moses along with coach Jesse Byers.

Want to become a boxer, or improve on the craft if you have already taken it up?

The opportunity may be closer than you think.

The Tellico Plains-based Monroe County Boxing Club reopened for the new season on Monday, Sept. 9.

The gym provides boxers ages 8 or up the chance to hone their skills and compete across the Southeast. Anyone 21-years-old or younger that wishes to participate in competitive boxing is able to train at the gym for free.

Two of the Monroe County Boxing Club’s members even competed for the Regional Junior Olympics in New Orleans, Louisiana, last summer.

Gym hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:45 p.m. The club’s head coach is Jesse Byers.
