Monroe County Senior Citizens once again made their home county proud in the District Southeast Senior Games.

The games were held in McMinn County April 26-May 4 and the 37 participants brought home medal after medal in events ranging from bowling to golf.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee sponsored the games which are open to everyone from age 50 and up. Participants can take part in as many events as they wish to enter.

Monroe County participants who brought home medals included:

James Sneed – Bowling, fourth place

James Sneed and Raymond Sneed – doubles bowling, first place

James Sneed and Sandy Hess – mixed bowling, first place

Freddie Atkins – first place in long jump, 800m run, 1,500m run, 5k run, 200m run, 400m run; second place in power walk and 100m run

D.E. Howard – Rook, fourth place

R. Howard Harvey – golf, third place

Betty Barnett – first place in table tennis doubles, pickleball singles, shot put, softball throw, javelin, racquetball, racquetball doubles, table tennis singles; second place in horseshoes, basketball hot shot, basketball free throw, basketball three point shot, discus

Dot Upton, - singles women’s tennis, first place, women’s double tennis, second place and third place, women’s doubles horseshoes

Frances Maxwell – first place in singles table tennis, table tennis doubles, racquetball singles and doubles, badminton singles and doubles; second place in discus; third place in basketball free throw, softball throw, shuffleboard singles; fourth place in shot put, shuffleboard doubles

Gordon Gibson – golf, first place

Dennis Miller – softball throw, first place; second place in javelin, discus, long jump, shot put; third place, basketball free throw

Wanda Wagner – bowling, third place

Faye McDaniel – first place in shot put, basketball free throw, 100m run, discus, softball throw, javelin; second place in horse shoes, one mile power walk, 1,500m race walk, shuffleboard singles

Nell Elsea – second place in checkers, rook

Gail Henley – first place in 1,500m run, 400m run, long jump; second place in 800m run, 100m run, 200m run; third place in one mile power walk

Margie Atkins – first place in softball throw, basketball free throw, shuffleboard single, discus, horseshoes, singles bowling, javelin, singles badminton, doubles badminton, basketball hotshot, shot put, long jump, shuffleboard doubles

Tom Currie – bowling doubles, third place

Leslee Steele – first place in one mile power walk, 1,500m race walk; second place in shuffleboard doubles and singles

Tom R. Steele – first place in basketball hot shot, one mile power walk, basketball hot shot, 1,500m race walk, javelin, softball throw, shuffleboard singles; second place in basketball free throw, basketball three point shot, shuffleboard doubles; fourth place in golf

Barbara Currie – tied for fourth place in bowling singles

Marcia Long – first place in softball throw, javelin, table tennis singles and doubles, , badminton singles, high jump, discus, shuffleboard singles and doubles, badminton singles and mixed doubles, shot put, 100m run; second place in horseshoes; third place in basketball free throw

William C. Long – first place in table tennis singles, badminton mixed doubles, shuffleboard singles; second place in basketball hot shot, badminton singles, basketball three point shot; fourth place in basketball free throw

Betty M. Maxwell – third place in horseshoes, shot put, javelin, discus.
